Keri Timmerman became the 23rd football head coach and athletic director of Marble Falls Independent School District Dec. 18.
The board of trustees approved his hire during a regular meeting on the recommendation of Dr. Jeff Gasaway, MFISD superintendent. Brian Herman resigned the position Nov. 7.
“(Timmerman) checks a lot of the boxes of our community,” Gasaway said. “He had head coach and athletic director experience. He has a style of offense that’s going to be hitting our kids. It’s a positive product on the field. He’s a Godly man. He’ll get our kids excited to be apart of Marble Falls football.”
After the vote, Timmerman addressed the audience.
“We want you to be apart of that,” he said. “We want you to feel like it’s your home in the field house. We can’t wait to get started.”
Timmerman served as the Leander Vandegrift High School passing coordinator and recruiting coordinator under head coach Drew Sanders. In 2023, the Vipers (10-1, 7-0) won the District 25-6A title and lost to Lake Travis 13-10 in a bi-district championship.
In 2022, the Vipers finished as the Class 6A Division II runner-up, losing to De Soto 42-17 in the state championship after posting a 14-2 overall record and winning the district crown.
Timmerman also served as the head coach at Lake Worth High School for three years where he had a 27 percent winning record. He noted he was working 17-hour days as he evaluated staff and because he believed he needed to be at every event. He said there were some close games, especially the first year where the Bullfrogs could have won two more.
He said that experience taught him plenty, especially the importance of balancing between work and home and leaning on staff members more.
He has been a coach at Grapevine Colleyville Independent School District and China Spring where he served as a football, track and powerlifting coach and as a speed and strength coordinator. He has a Masters of Education degree sin sports administration and management from Hardin-Simmons University and a Bachelor of Sciences in education from Baylor University and worked on the college staffs at HSU and McMurray University. He also has coached soccer, softball, power lifting, basketball and track.
The Marble Falls position drew 102 applicants. Twenty-three were selected by a committee after members heard from the community the traits it wanted to see in the next coach. That number dropped to eight semifinalists and three finalists.
Timmerman emerged as the selection.
“We heard from the Marble Falls community what they hoped for in a new athletic director and head football coach, and we are confident we found the right individual to fulfill this important leadership position in Marble Falls,” Gasaway said. “Coach Timmerman will continue to build successful athletes with strong character who will be given every opportunity to grow personally and as an athlete; we have the fortune to have him building up our youth here in Marble Falls ISD.”
